Why Kultura? Latin root referring to the shared customs, arts, institutions, and achievements of a community or group.

When I started Kultura, I wanted to do more than just showcase beautiful photos of street art. I wanted to create a book that could teach, engage, and connect with its audience. By organizing the images into six street art categories—tags, slaps, graffiti, murals, stencils, and 3D art—I could guide the viewers through the variety of street art styles.

My favorite feature is the integration of QR codes alongside select artworks. By scanning the QR code, viewers can see the location where the artwork lives in the world through Google Maps Street View. This feature bridges the gap between print and digital media, letting someone in their living room virtually stand in front of a mural halfway across the globe.

Every spread in Kultura was designed with the intention to emphasize the distinct features of the showcased street art. Additionally, various grid systems were established to maintain consistency throughout the book. It’s a book meant to be explored slowly, finding something new with every page turn.

This book doesn’t just inform; it inspires viewers to seek out these walls in person and hopefully encourages others to pay more attention to the beauty of walking the simplest streets. It’s time to pause the digital scrolling and see the amazing stories and colors painted on our streets.
